The Mazda BT-50 is a midsize pick-up truck that debuted in Japan in 2006. This was the first generation based on the Ford Ranger. It was also powered by the ranger’s 2.5 and 3.0-litre inline-four diesel engines.
The second generation Ford Ranger shared the same underpinnings and powertrain as the first. The Mazda BT third generation was unveiled in 2020. Unlike previous generations, this generation was based on the third generation of the Isuzu d-max. This was due to an agreement between Isuzu and Mazda in which Isuzu supplied Mazda with fully-built pickup trucks. Let us now go over the new generation Mazda BT-50 variants, engine, specs, and features of the 2022 Mazda BT-50.
2022 Mazda BT-50 Model variants and trim levels
The Mazda BT-50 is available in single, extra-cab, and dual-cab pick-up truck configurations. Previously, the three variants were available in three model trims: XT, XTR, and GR. However, a new XS model trim has joined the lineup as the base model for the 2022 Mazda BT-50.
Engine, transmission and performance
The XT, XTR, and GR trim levels are powered by 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engines sourced from Isuzu. The 3.0-litre engine generates 140 kW and 450NM of torque. It is also available with either a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission. The new Mazda BT-50 XS model trim is powered by a 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine mated exclusively to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This engine has a power output of 110 KW and a torque output of 350 NM.
2022 Mazda BT-50 Specs
The new 2022 Mazda BT-50 XS entry-level grade is available in 4×2 single and dual cab chassis. Moreover, a dual-cab 4×4 pickup chassis is offered.
The XT trim level is available with either a 4×4 single and dual cab pickup chassis or a 4×2 single cab, additional cab, and dual cab chassis.
Both 4×2 and 4×4 dual cab pickup trucks with the mid-range XTR are supplied with an automatic transmission only. A 4×4 dual cab, however, is additionally offered with a manual or automatic transmission.
Only the 4×4 dual-cab pickup in either a manual or automatic transmission is available in the top grade, the GT.
