Since 1994, the Audi A8 has been a four-door, full-size luxury sedan produced and marketed by the German automaker Audi. The Audi A8, replaced the Audi V8 and is now in its fourth generation, it has been available with front- or permanent all-wheel drive, as well as short- and long-wheelbase variants. The VW Group D platform was used for the first two generations, with the MLB platform being used for the current version. Following the 1994 launch of the first model, Audi introduced the second generation in late 2002, the third in late 2009, and the fourth and current iteration in 2017. All A8 models have employed this co-developed construction process, making it the first mass-market automobile with an aluminium chassis.

This luxury sedan is offered in both the A8 standard wheelbase and the A8 L extended or long-wheelbase version. The A8 L adds 5 inches (127 mm) of rear legroom. The A8 is designed as a competitor to fellow German rivals Mercedes Benz S Class and the BMW 7 Series.

What engine does an Audi A8 have?

The Audi a8 comes with two engine options. Under the hood of the base version is a 3.0-litre turbo petrol V6 engine. The V6 produces 250kw and 500Nm of torque. the second one is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 engine that comes in the 60TFSI. This V8 delivers 338kw and 660 NM of torque. However, a plugin hybrid version of the A8 is also available. A 14.4 kW battery is combined with the V6 petrol engine producing 340kw and 700Nm of torque.

Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission system and all-wheel drive comes as standard.

Audi A8 interior

The A8 is known for its generous passenger capacity, and its long wheelbase ensures that rear-seat passengers are comfortably accommodated. A four-passenger seating package is available, which eliminates the rear centre seat and adds two power-adjustable back seats with heating, ventilation, and massage, as well as a heated foot-massage function and two individual entertainment tablets (while reducing power adjustments for the front passenger seat to make room for all that). There are plenty of high-quality materials available, including stretched leather and a small forest’s worth of wood inlays.

Infotainment and connectivity

In the A8, The 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster, as well as the 10.1-inch upper and 8.6-inch lower haptic centre screens with the MMI Touch Response technology, are standard. Because most functions are managed by touchscreens, the audio system has only one volume knob. The system is quick to respond and extremely adaptable, allowing owners to choose their own specialized buttons on the bottom screen while providing permanent buttons for navigation, weather, phone operations, and radio on the left side of the upper screen. Just remember that trying to erase fingerprints will wear out the provided microfiber wipe. Additionally, the apple car play and android auto for the infotainment come as standard together with amazon’s Alexa

Safety and driver assistance features

Like the other luxury sedans, the Audi A8 comes well equipped with driver assistance technologies. Key standard features include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.

How much does the Audi A8 cost?

The starting price of the 2021 Audi A8 is $86,500, which is about typical for a super premium automobile. The BMW 7 Series starts about the same price as the Audi A8, but the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is several thousand dollars more.

The A8 plug-in hybrid costs $95,900, while the V8-powered middle variant starts at $98,900. The high-performance Audi S8 costs $130,900.
