2021 Toyota Hilux: All you need to know

The Toyota Hilux pickup is one of the most popular pickups in the world. Day after day, the Hilux has established itself well keeping its good reputation. Till date, it has maintained its durability and reliability traits and even its off-roading capabilities. All these have made it an outstanding workhorse that remains recognizable.

2021 Toyota Hilux body variants

When it comes to body variants, the Toyota Hilux is available in three different body styles.

  • Single cab- this has only the front section with 2 seats ( the driver and passenger seat) and a long bed
  • Extra cab- in the extra cab, you will find full-size front doors, have width rear doors and it has rear seats which are optionally available.
  • Double cab- in this one, full-size front and rear doors are available. It also packs rear seats having a capacity of five people in it.

Which one is best for you?. It depends on why and how you want the 2021 Toyota Hilux to serve you. The double cab would be the best for many lifestyle customers. Both the single cab and extra cab would be good for business purposes because they can carry a large load on their long truck beds.

Engine and performance

Under the hood, the Toyota Hilux packs a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. This is the only engine that powers every Hilux pick-up truck. The four cylinders produce and deliver 150 horsepower and 400 NM of torque. That’s really disappointing having just one engine available and moreover delivering a low amount of power.

However, to make up for all these flaws, in 2021, Toyota has now a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine powering the Toyota Hilux. The new engine delivers more power compared to the previous one which is producing 204 horsepower and 500 NM of torque. It is also mated with a six-speed automatic transmission system and a part-time four-wheel-drive system and a rear diff lock.

2021 Toyota Hilux Fuel consumption

The Hilux has an 80-litre fuel tank. The fuel consumption is listed at 8.4 litres per 100KM combined.

Exterior

The Toyota Hilux always looks aggressive and looks more of a go-anywhere 4WD pickup truck. Honestly, the styling right from the front big grille all the way to the back looks excellent. However, for the 2021 model, it has adopted a new look becoming more eye-catching. Some of the top grades of the Hilux such as the SR5 have received a new chrome grille resembling the one of the Toyota Tacoma and 4runner that is mainly sold in the U.S market. Additionally, the headlights grille, bumpers taillights and the body of the pickup truck have still remained the same.

Interior

The interior of the Toyota Hilux looks and feels more luxury and comfortable. Inside the cabin, is all covered by a nice leather accent and on the dashboard, every function is easy to locate and use. When it comes to the number of seats, in the single cab you will get two seats, four seats in the extra cab which are rarely found and five seats for the Toyota Hilux double cab.

All Toyota Hilux models come with a standard 8.0-inch touch screen display powered by an updated multimedia system. Instead of buttons on the side, the new multimedia system is controlled using knobs. A newly added apple car play and an android smartphone mirror technology works so well with the voice control enhanced in the new Toyota Hilux. Additionally, the new Hilux has a 4.2-inch digital screen with a digital speedo display.
