2023 Volkswagen Amarok price and specs

The Volkswagen Amarok was introduced in 2010 by Volkswagen commercial vehicles. It comes with either a single-cab or a dual-cab pick-up truck. Back in 2010, the pick-up truck was powered by a choice of two 2.0 litre turbocharged engines, either turbocharged petrol or TDI diesel. The Volkswagen Amarok, on the other hand, received a major facelift in 2017, which included the replacement of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder powertrain with a 3.0-litre TDI v6 engine. This was done in order to keep up with its main competitors. Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi L200, and Isuzu DMAX are among the competitors.

Volkswagen Amarok Exterior styling

The 2022 Volkswagen Amarok’s design is instantly recognizable, with an imposing, squared-off shape that isn’t a radical departure from the outgoing model. However, there are a few key details that give it a more refined appearance.

The new LED headlights, which are standard on all models, are complemented by twin chrome bars across the front grille. For the first time, higher-spec models get LED matrix headlights with an adaptive beam. The front skidplate and plastic cladding on the high-spec models are also silver, and ‘Amarok’ is spelt out in big letters above the number plate on all models.

The side features pronounced wheel arches and a higher shoulder line, while top-spec trims are distinguished by chrome mirror covers and door handles. Wheel sizes up to 21 inches are available, as is a step to aid access features beneath the doors.

The Amarok name is embossed across nearly the entire width of the tailgate, indicating what kind of pickup this is. The rear bumper has rugged protective cladding, and higher trims get new C-shaped taillights with LED technology.

VW Amarok Dimensions

The 2022 VW Amarok is 5,350mm long, which is 96mm longer than the previous model. The wheelbase has increased to 3270mm, up 173mm from before. VW claims that this increases second-row space for double-cab variants, but because the wheelbase has grown more than the body, it improves approach angles, making it better off-road.

Although the VW Amarok’s initial generation was successful in bringing more car-like comfort and refinement to the pick-up market, competitors have subsequently improved. The new Amarok wants to reassume its position at the top of the market by providing quality and technology previously unheard of in trucks at this price range and more in line with the greatest SUVs.

Infotainment and connectivity features

A digital instrument display that comes standard on every model is one of the new features. It has an eight-inch screen on lower-end trims and a configurable 12-inch “Digital Cockpit” on Style trim and higher. A new “tablet-style” infotainment screen with portrait orientation is also available. It starts at 10 inches on entry-level models and grows to 12 inches on Style trims and higher.

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and VW’s linked services package are included with every version. The company hasn’t forgotten about the Amarok’s hardworking routes, though, as evidenced by the tactile “hard key” physical controls for some tasks that are located below the screen and the claims of durable materials.

Engine, power and transmission

On debut, the Amarok was powered by two  2.0 litres of four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engines.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine in the TDI400 and TDI420 produces 132kW of power and 400Nm of torque and 420Nm of torque in the TDI420.

The TDI400 is only available with a six-speed manual transmission, however, the TDI420 has an eight-speed automatic transmission.

After replacing the 2.0-litre powertrain back in 2017, the Volkswagen Amarok is also available with a 3.0-litre TDI v6 engine. This is available for the TDI 500, TDI 550 and TDI 580 models.

The same power is also produced in the TD550 but has more torque figures of around 550NM. The 3.0 litre in the TDI550 is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Amarok high-grade TDI580 v6 makes 190 kW and 580 NM it is also paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission system which comes as standard.

Volkswagen Amarok Fuel economy

On a combined cycle, the TDI500, 550, and 580 consume 9.7, 9.1 and 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres respectively.

Towing capacity

The Volkswagen Amarok model braking towing capacity starts at 3000kgs.
