For the land cruiser, Toyota engineers intended to design a vehicle that was safe and easy to operate while also being difficult to tire in even the most extreme conditions. This led to the development of the GR sports variant, which was based on feedback from drivers competing in the Dakar valley. Since 1995, this is where Toyota Land Cruiser has competed in the production car category. As a result, starting in 2023, Toyota Auto Body will compete in the Dakar rally with a car based on the 300 series gr sport.
