If you are looking for a good offroader, you have to try the 2024 landrover defender. The SUV’s on-road demeanor belies its potential to travel anywhere, and you can customize it to meet your specific demands with a trio of available powertrains and three different body types. this includes 90, 110, and 130.
For 2024, the long-wheelbase Defender 130 model will be offered in a new Outbound grade level that does away with the third row of seats and the rearmost windows to increase interior cargo space and provide more exterior customization options. The 518-hp supercharged V-8 that is an option on the 90 and 110 versions is now also available for the 130 variant.
Speaking of the 110, a new County Exterior option is offered that features a two-tone exterior paint scheme, a distinctive 20-inch wheel design, illuminated door sill protectors, and interior accents that match the outside for that body model.
Styling
The Defender is built with a unibody rather than a body-on-frame system and swaps out the old solid axles for a completely independent suspension. Coil springs are used in the base suspension, but it is upgradeable to an air suspension that allows for adjustable ride height. The Jeep Wrangler’s maximum clearance and wading capacity are both exceeded by the 11.5-inch ground clearance and 35-inch water-fording capacity of the Land Rover Defender.
Land Rover Defender Interior
The Defender’s interior is a fine balance of luxurious and practical, with just enough design elements from the rest of the Land Rover series to make those familiar with the brand feel at ease. Exposed rivets in the door panels lend a tough appearance, and a magnesium beam that spans the entire width of the dashboard isn’t just for show—it’s also structural.
A trapezoidal expansion of the dashboard beneath the infotainment screen houses the controls for the climate system and driving mode. Instead of the center console, the shifter and ignition switch are positioned on this center stack. To form a jump seat between the driver and passenger, comparable to a three-across bench in certain full-size pickup trucks, the center console can be flipped back in select versions.
Infotainment and connectivity features
The Defender’s dashboard is equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which utilizes a new Land Rover user interface dubbed Pivi Pro; a larger 11.4-inch display is available. Although the rear seats can be folded to create a much larger cargo bay, the 90 and 110 models’ cargo space behind the rear seat is still on par with that of competing off-road vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler. Those looking to transport people and cargo may want to consider the larger Land Rover Discovery or invest in a roof-top cargo carrier. The longer 130 model has more cargo area when the third row is folded down, but there isn’t much room for gear when it’s folded forward.
Engine, Power, and Transmission
The Defender is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged engine linked to an eight-speed automated transmission. Of course, all models have four-wheel drive and locking differentials for tackling difficult terrain. A 3.0-liter inline-six engine with an electric supercharger and a 48-volt hybrid system is also available for the Defender.
Fuel economy and consumption
No matter what is powering a Defender, all of the models have similar fuel efficiency ratings from the EPA. The four-cylinder 90 variant is rated at 18 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. The ’90s city rating falls to 17 mpg when you upgrade to the six-cylinder engine, but the highway figure rises to 23 mpg. The long-wheelbase 130 is rated for 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway with the six-cylinder engine, while the 110 model with the six-cylinder engine has the same estimates as the six-cylinder 90. The 90 with the V-8 is capable of 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, while the 110 with the V-8 is rated for 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.
