BMW recently unveiled the all-new 2023 BMW 7 series. This is an entirely new generation of BMW’s flagship sedan, the 7 Series. Furthermore, the 7 series is now available as a fully electric vehicle known as the BMW i7. It’s also the brand’s most luxurious and advanced product, and it’s new for the 2023 model year. BMW has given its Mercedes-Benz S-class rival a bold new exterior design in order to give it the visual impact that goes with its elevated positioning. The new design, influenced largely by customer feedback in markets such as China and the United States, instantly distinguishes the new seven series from the sixth-generation model introduced in 2015.
2023 BMW 7 series dimensions
The 2023 BMW 7 series has been lengthened by 130 millimetres to 5391 millimetres, its width has been increased by 48 millimetres to 1950 mm, and it is 51 millimetres taller, at one thousand five hundred and forty-four millimetres. It also no longer has a choice of two wheelbases. Instead, all new seven-series models have the same 3215mm wheelbase, a 5 mm increase over the previous long-wheelbase model.
2023 BMW 7 Series Exterior
The front end features a large grille with two elements, as seen on all recent BMW models, and comes with BMW’s iconic lighting treatment, first seen on the facelifted 8 series. The separation of the headlamps, with the LED running lights above and the main beams below, adds more presence while maintaining visual ties with the recently facelifted BMW X7.
The overall shape is defined by a three-box silhouette with familiar long bonnet proportions. Throughout, the surface is smooth and largely unadorned. There are only two feature lines visible along the flanks, with a pronounced shoulder running from the outer tip of the running lights to the taillights. Door handles with an internal touchpad and electronic mechanism replace traditional handles, as seen on the BMW ix. The boot line angles down slightly at the back. Meanwhile, the horizontal led tail lights mimic the look of the ix, giving the new seven series more visual width.
2023 BMW 7 Series Interior
Inside, the 2023 BMW 7 series offers a plethora of luxuries to its passengers. The seven serious interiors have a posh vibe thanks to rich-smelling leathers, stainless steel accents, and fancy glass and wood trim elements.
Buyers can even select a new cashmere upholstery option if it suits their personal style. The luxurious interior now has the technology, style, and opulence to compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-class.
Infotainment and Features
The dashboard of the 7-series is similar to that of the ix SUV, with a large digital gauge display mounted beneath the same glass panel as the infotainment touchscreen. The re-configurable displays provide sharp resolution and quick response. A receipt entertainment system known as a theatre screen is available as an option. It makes use of a massive 31.3-inch display that deploys from the car’s ceiling.
Both front and rear passenger space is ample. However, the executive lounge package, which includes power-adjustable reclining rear seats with massage, a wireless smartphone charging pad for the rear seat area, and adjustable neck cushions on the headrests, makes the 7 series stand out.
Engine, Power and Performance
The BMW 7 series is powered by six different petrol and diesel engines. All are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and some form of the hybrid system. Rear-wheel drive 735i models generate 286 horsepower from a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine and a mild hybrid system. A more powerful rear-wheel-drive 740i with 380 horsepower is also available. A four-wheel-drive 760i with a mild hybrid system and a twin-turbo 4.4 litre V8 produces 544 horsepower.
The BMW 7 Series lineup, on the other hand, begins with the four-wheel-drive 740d, which is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight six-diesel engine with a mild hybrid system. This combination produces 300 horsepower and accelerates from zero to sixty miles per hour in 6.3 seconds. The 750e hybrid, which uses a 310 horsepower three-litre straight-six petrol engine and a 200 horsepower electric motor to produce 490 horsepower, is also available. This sprints from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.9 seconds.
The i7 has only one variant, the i7x drives 60. It is powered by a 102-kilowatt-hour battery with a range of up to 388 miles. That’s about 15 miles less than a Tesla Model S and about 65 miles less than a Mercedes EQS 450 plus. The BMW i7 supports 195 kilowatts of fast charging, which is slightly slower than the Mercedes EQS’s 200 kilowatts, but it’s enough to give you an extra mile of range in about 10 minutes.
BMW 7-series Price
The starting price for the 2023 BMW 7 Series 740i is $93,300. The price of the electric i7 is $119,300, and the 760i xDrive is $113,600.
