The second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe debuts for the 2025 model year. It features a refined exterior, an upgraded interior, and enhanced powertrains. This sleek four-door alternative to the traditional 2 Series will go on sale in the US next March, with pricing starting at $40,775.
Updated Powertrain
The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe continues to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. However, BMW has improved its performance by modifying combustion geometry and adding a dual injection system. The engine outputs 241 horsepower in the 228 sDrive and xDrive trims, while the M235 xDrive boasts 312 horsepower. Both variants deliver 295 pound-feet of torque.
New Seven-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission
A significant update for the 2025 model is the replacement of the eight-speed automatic transmission with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. When equipped with the M Sport Package, the transmission includes an M Sport Boost function that maximizes acceleration when the left-hand paddle shifter is held for one second.
Performance
The 228 xDrive accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than its predecessor. The M235 xDrive completes the same sprint in 4.7 seconds, although this is 0.1 seconds slower compared to the 2024 model, despite the increase in horsepower. It’s worth noting that while the M235 xDrive has more horsepower for 2025, its torque has decreased from 332 lb-ft to 295 lb-ft.
Design and Dimensions
The 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe is slightly larger than the outgoing model, with the length increasing by 0.7 inches and the height by 1.0 inches. The width and wheelbase remain unchanged. Standard M Sport styling lends the model an aggressive appearance, highlighted by large air intakes below the iconic kidney grille.
Signature Design Features
A distinctive embossed number “2” adorns the Hofmeister kink, a classic BMW design element, while narrow LED taillights accentuate the rear. The Gran Coupe rides on standard 18-inch alloy wheels, with optional 18- and 19-inch designs available. Customers can choose from all-season, summer, or performance tyres.
Suspension Upgrades
The 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe comes equipped with BMW’s M Adaptive Suspension as standard. However, buyers can opt for a traditional suspension setup at no additional cost. BMW has also increased the caster offset by 20 per cent to improve handling and ride comfort.
Tech-Filled Cabin and Comfort
Inside, the updated 2 Series Gran Coupe features BMW’s Curved Display running the BMW OS 9 operating system. Additional interior upgrades include a new gear selector, a wireless charging pad, and a standard 12-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system.
New Seating Options and Features
The cabin is outfitted with leather-free, perforated Veganza upholstery, and newly designed heated sports seats are standard. For the first time, the Gran Coupe offers optional massaging front seats, elevating comfort for drivers and passengers.
