The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQC, which draws inspiration from the Concept EQ, attempts to reenact the ideology of sensuous purity held by Mercedes-Design Benz by showcasing its avant-garde, modern, and distinctive electro-look. Although the overall design is comparable to the Mercedes-Benz GLC’s, it has a softer edge.
Mercedes EQC Exterior
Although being all-electric, the Mercedes EQC has a classic Mercedes-Benz radiator grille with a gloss black panel frame and a huge three-pointed star as an emphasis. The characteristic C-shaped daytime running light graphics are connected by a light strip above the grille, which is only briefly obscured by the chromed grille surrounds. Maybe the best part of the car is the thin taillight strip that runs across the entire back section, emphasizing the rear’s appearance of width.

Stepping inside the Mercedes EQC, the traditional Mercedes-Benz interior arrangement has been updated to suit the all-electric EQ vibe. The dual 10.25-inch widescreen displays, one for the driver’s instrument display and the other for controlling the MBUX infotainment system, are mounted to a vented structure inspired by an amplifier’s cooling fins, and the pattern is repeated around the wraparound dashboard trim that extends to the doors.
The circular air vents inspired by a jet turbine have been replaced by horizontal and vertical air vents with a rose gold insert in the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The touchpad control for the now-ubiquitous MBUX infotainment system is housed in the very familiar center console design with a big gloss black inlay.
The standard upholstery is made up of a multi-tone Artico faux leather and fabric combo. There are no visible modifications to the inside cabin space due to the 3 mm larger wheelbase. It’s adequate at best, and the sloping roof line limits rear headroom. The boot space, though, is plenty at 500 liters.
Engine, power, and performance
A pair of electric motors, one on each axle, power the all-electric SUV, producing a total system output of 300 kW and a massive 765 Nm of torque. With both motors running, the car will accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, before topping out at a modest 180 km/h. Although the automobile is the mostly front-wheel drive for efficiency, when extra performance is necessary, the rear motor kicks in to provide four-wheel-drive capacity.
A modular 80 kWh (405 volts, 230 Ah) lithium-ion battery powers these motors, consisting of two modules with 48 cells each and four modules with 72 cells each, for a total of 384 cells.
A fixed-ratio transmission sends power to all four wheels. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQC has five driving modes to improve both performance and efficiency: Comfort, Eco, Max Range, Sport, and Individual. The optional Eco Assist feature uses the onboard navigation system, camera, and radar data to optimize its guidance on your accelerator usage based on the route profile, speed limit, and distance to the car ahead to further maximize efficiency.
Infotainment and features
The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system is standard on the EQC and can be accessed via the 10.25-inch touchscreen display, dedicated media buttons, touch control button on the steering wheel, touchpad on the center console, or the Linguatronic voice control with ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice command function. The system also includes EQ-specific displays and voice commands, as well as an enhanced navigation system that considers the remaining battery range and available en-route charging stations.
Pre-entry temperature control allows you to program the cooling or heating of the vehicle before driving using either the MBUX system or the Mercedes Me smartphone app. It will also operate automatically for up to five minutes after you open the car.
An Electric Line interior, 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels, a sunroof, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, and a premium Burmester audio system are also standard.
Safety and driver assistance features
Distronic adaptive cruise control with automatic restarts, Active Steering Assistant with Active Lane Change Assistant and Active Emergency Stop Assistant, Active Brake Assistant, evasive steering assistance, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, a pedestrian warning system, and Pre-Safe Plus are all included in the Mercedes’ first EV SUV’s safety and driver assistance package.
