Recently, Toyota revealed a new custom 2021 Toyota supra GR with a two-piece removable Targa top. This was built essentially for the virtual SEMA aftermarket trade show which took place earlier this year. The sport top pays tribute to the MK4 supra with an open Targa piece back then. The composite material made new roof is removed manually and it’s designed to be stored in the car’s boot whenever it’s not in function. Unfortunately, there was only one made which was a project made for the SEMA trade fair.

The custom 2021 Toyota supra GR is no different where it uses the same body kit, wings and wheels. The only difference is that it has an open-top.  Based on the heritage edition showcased last year, the custom gr supra has rounded taillights inserts and basket handle rear wing which hits back to the MKIv A80 from the 90s. Additionally, the sports top supra sits a three-inch lower thanks to the new suspensions. It also rides on 19 inch HRE wheels that house big Brembo brakes.

Under the bonnet, all you find is a 3.0-litre inline-six which has a modified turbo from the factory. The BMW sourced turbocharged 3.0 inline-six engine delivers 382 horsepower and a stunning 368 pound-feet of torque. The numbers aren’t that bad for the Toyotas sports car right?. Surprisingly, the 2021 Toyota supra is way more powerful while compared to the 2020 model which has 47 horsepower and 3 pound-feet less. The new GR Supra also claims 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

Based on reports, sadly, Toyota confirmed that this sports top is only one, for now, there also no plans to put this supra’s version into production. A manual Toyota supra with an open-top would really improve the driving experience. And honestly, it would be a dream come true for car enthusiasts who love the supra. But, should Toyota start the production of supra with a sports top? What do you think?.
